Meet our Residents PGY-3

Carlos Ballesteros, MD

Dr. Carlos Ballesteros was born in Weslaco, Texas and was raised in the border town of Reynosa, Mexico. Upon completion of high school he attended the University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA) where he majored in biology and chemistry; he worked as a teaching and research assistant during his college career. After graduation, he attended medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas (UTMB). After completion of residency training, Dr. Ballesteros would like to pursue a fellowship. In his spare time he likes to go for a run, hit the gym, cook, and play video games, among others hobbies.

Laura Fonseca, MD

Dr. Laura Fonseca completed her undergraduate education at The University of Texas Pan-American in Edinburg, Texas. She graduated from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston with her medical degree in 2015.

Jennifer Griesel, MD

Rank – PGY-3

 

Dr. Jennifer Griesel is a PGY-2 OB/GYN resident from Houston, Texas. She majored in biology at The University of Texas at Dallas. She earned her medical doctorate at Paul L. Foster School of Medicine in El Paso, Texas. She enjoys working out, country music, cooking, and spending time with her cats.

Zishan Hirani, MD

Rank – PGY-3

 

Dr. Zishan Hirani is a PGY2 OB/GYN resident. He is interested in an academic career as a clinical scholar to better identify health disparities among African American and Hispanic women and to design community-based models to improve access to quality care for these populations. He graduated from Emory University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in religion.  While at Emory, Dr. Hirani was accepted to the competitive Emory Community Building and Social Change Fellowship where he was trained in designing community based models for poverty alleviation. In 2006, he participated in the competitive Public Policy and International Affairs Fellowship at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School where Dr. Uwe Reinhardt trained him in the evolution of health systems. He subsequently worked for Mathematica Policy Research, Inc. in Washington, D.C. where he continued to build his skills in health policy research. Dr. Hirani also earned a Master of Science degree from The Johns Hopkins University and his medical degree from The University of Texas Southwestern.
